Orphaned and outcast, Bluesky despairs of ever finding acceptance and friendship. But a kindly mourning dove invites him to join her flock, even though he has always heard that 'birds of a feather stick together.' Then, with the support of Ol' Gray Mama, Bluesky works up the courage to ask the wise owl Nightwind how to find a friend. Nightwind's advice, however, confuses the young orphan: Go on a journey that isn't about traveling and meet birds who aren't mockingbirds. How can this possibly help him find a mockingbird who will become his friend? Still, Bluesky promises he will try. In his journey of discovery, Bluesky learns that friendship can be found in the unlikeliest of places and that there is hope even for a one-legged mockingbird. But he also learns that an invisible terror is growing stronger. Slowly, inexorably, this unseen killer draws the lives of Bluesky the mockingbird, KC the cat, and her human Mark closer and closer together. Will Bluesky's journey lead him to the source of the dreaded "Death on the Wind"?
