The Lady of the Angels and Her City is a pilgrimage narrative. It recounts Wendy Wrights return to her hometown and her visitations to the citys many Marian churches and shrines. But it is about much more than Wrights personal pilgrimage. It affords glimpses into the history of Los Angeles Catholicism and, indeed, Catholicism in America. It peeks into the founding of the faith in the frontier region, the heroic labors of the religious orders that went on mission there and their sometimes dramatic destinies, and the waves of immigrants who have arrived on American shores.
