ESP (English for Specific Purposes) has become a very important part of scientific work because the vast majority of scientific texts are written in English. This book presents a basic introduction to the fields of earth sciences and their history and to the linguistic and didactic aspects of ESP as the language of earth sciences, such as morphology, word formation and semantics. A model ESP course is set up to provide teachers with some ideas and suggestions for his/her own course, including a glossary of special vocabulary of the language of earth sciences, giving German translations and English explanations.
