The legend is told that Frenchman Jean Lafitte and his band of pirates buried treasure on Bolivar Peninsula on the Gulf coast of Texas way back in 1817. A flock of Roseate Spoonbills who live on the peninsula discover the treasure and decide the pirates shouldn't have it. They take it and leave it at the door of a retired and reformed former pirate who feeds and tends wounded birds.
