Some questions don't have answers. The Lie Detector, the Artisan's Journal, and the Infinite Spiral -- Robert Lovinger's fourth novel -- is the story of Donovan Patel, a celebrated private investigator stunned when she learns of a death for which she may be responsible. Corporations and governments call on Donovan to expose deception and fraud. She regularly gives TV interviews and delivers TED talks and highly paid lectures. She is supremely self-assured. But when someone she investigated commits suicide, her confidence is shattered by the possibility she made a mistake. This is a tale of mystery and revelation; of a terrorist plot and a remarkable near-death experience; of an unexplained vision, a broken heart in sixteenth-century France, and a long-ago promise finally kept. Oh, and a barbershop where everybody knows your name.
