Autorenporträt
Der Insektenforscher Jean-Henri Fabre (1823-1915) war zunächst Kellner, dann Lehrer, später studierte er Mathematik und Biologie. 1879 kaufte er in Serignan (Departement Vaucluse) ein Landgut, wo er bis zu seinem Tod Insektenforschungen betrieb. Seine 'Souvenirs entomologiques' blieben bis heute das umfassendste Werk der Insektenforschung.
Fabre schrieb auch Gedichte und Lieder und wurde 1904 für den Literaturnobelpreis vorgeschlagen.
