The Lost Petal of The White Rose is science fiction blended into the background of a dysfunctional American government that has been taken over by the multi-national corporations and powerful elite. The novel is told from the voices of two strong female characters--astronomers and astro-physicists Melibea Paz and her mentor Dr. Trailing Arbutus Banks. Melibea discovers a supernova, but then the supernova mysteriously disappears. The world's scientists discover that the SN and part of the White Rose Galaxy have been consumed by another universe that is expanding toward Earth. They attempt to procure funding to find a way to stop the other universe from devouring our own, only to confront a stubbornly resistant congress beholden to corporate powers. As the other universe approaches Earth at a speed faster than light, Melibea faces her own personal conflicts in her relation with the man she loves and her growing feelings for a fellow astronomer. Earth is eventually saved by an unexpected source from deep in space. The novel is told in the voice of two strong female characters who never say quit. And amid all the SF and political drama with a government that has become the enemy of truth, appear a number of quirky characters and loads of humor.
