Among the abandoned belongings, they find an envelope addressed to Alia from the rogue mage Marek. Seemingly enchanted, the envelope must remain sealed until they can confer with the head of the Order of the Mages. But, before they reach their destination, they are summoned by the Special Envoy to the Peoples of The Four Lands who instructs them to meet a young woman at the Temple of Anaia after seeking the mages' counsel. When they arrive at The Order, they are shocked to find it destroyed and most of the mages massacred. The group travels on to The Temple, where they make contact with the multitalented Aistra and escort her to the elven capital. There they learn the true nature of the special envoy along with Marek's malevolent plan.
