Dr. WILLIAM PATRICK FOSTER earned his bachelor of music education from the University of Kansas in 1941, his master of arts in music from Wayne State University in 1950, and his doctor of education degree from Columbia University in 1956. Dr. Foster became director of bands at FAMU in 1946 and took the band program to a historic level of success-creating what is known today as "The Marching 100." The FAMU band excited and thrilled millions around the world with the carefully curated and perfected "band sound," cadence, and animation and is today regarded as "The Most Imitated Matching Band in America." Dr. Foster is credited with revolutionizing marching band techniques and reshaping the world's concept of the collegiate marching band.
