Autorenporträt
CONSTANCE MENZEL MANTHEI was born to a German family in what is now Poland. She experienced six years of love and care before her mother tragically died in childbirth. For the next eight years, like Cinderella, she endured torture at the hands of a hateful stepmother until her father left that wife and took the children to his hometown. She immigrated to America in 1900 and married Ferdinand Manthei, who had immigrated a few years earlier. The young couple settled in Petoskey, Michigan, and bought a small farm. Despite years of poverty in a difficult marriage, Constance taught her children and grandchildren the Christian faith, the value of hard work, healthy food, friendship, music, and a great sense of humor. Written just prior to her death in 1952, Constance Menzel Manthei weaves her own glimpses of love into this old-fashioned adventure romance rich with imagination.
