Near the end of the Twenty-First Century, the Planet Earth was a mess. Overpopulated, plagued by climate change, viruses, mass extinctions, endless wars, geopolitical turmoil and terrorism, it was far from the Apex of Human Civilization. As resources dwindle and populations found themselves on the brink, the Global Super Powers began an aggressive resource-acquisition policy. America, Canada and Western Europe duked it out with Russia, China, Iran, Latin America and the Arab World. The winners got to seize the resources of Africa and the Caribbean. The Nations of Africa knew they could never defeat such a formidable array of imperialists. What they could do was outlast them. Hakim Dessalines was one of thousands of exceptional young Black men and young Black women buried alive in experimental Hibernation Berths inside the high-tech Preserver, a facility hidden underneath the African Wilderness. Awakened eons later by the Artificial Intelligence known as Orisha, Hakim and his fellow Wayfarers, including former Atlanta TV newswoman Amira Kizito, and Howard University football player Jasper Jackson, must face an uncertain future. They're the only Humans left alive. This is what comes after the End of the World. Afro-Futurism at its very best.
