Elaine Sorgard grew up on a farm in southern Alberta along with two brothers and a menagerie of cats, dogs and cousins. She received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge and was subsequently an educator in rural schools in the area for many years. In addition to several cookbooks, she has authored a collection of poems and stories from pioneer times entitled "Prairie Tales". Her hobbies include reading, writing, trying new recipes and travelling the world. She currently calls Lethbridge home.
