In little more than three months' time Harvard-educated Richard St. Clair created these musical hymns in strophic form upon metrical versifications of the 150 Psalms by Fred R. Anderson (used with the author's permission), Isaac Watts, the Scottish Psalter and others. The stylistic basis of this entire corpus is a Romanticized Baroque manner, inspired by the 371 Harmonized Chorales of J. S. Bach which the composer has studied and loved for many decades, while writing unusual moments charged with expressive harmonies, radical tessitura and voice-leading, breaking every rule in the hallowed style of Bach, all to produce an uplifting feeling of praise and worship for our Lord, the Father Almighty. "It is hoped," says the composer, "that this collection will be used, whether in church or synagogue or the concert stage, all to the glory of God, now and into the future."
