The Title page of the second part of the Christian Bible reads: The New Testament, ordinarily called "The New Covenant." The New Testament Or "New Covenant" is the story of the appearance on earth of Jesus Christ to be the mediator of a new covenant, and of his followers who made up the people of the new covenant. When Jesus gave his disciples the cup at the Last Supper, he stated: "This cup is the new covenant (new agreement) in my blood" (I Corinthians 11:25; cf. Mark 14:24). Paul believed himself to be the clergyman of a new covenant (II Corinthians 3:6), and Hebrews sees the fulfilment of Jeremiah's prophecy of a new covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34) in the covenant of which Jesus was the mediator (8:8-13; 10:16-18). In review the Old Testament, the concept of a covenant is key to the comprehension of the Old Testament. It is likewise central to the New Testament, notwithstanding the way that the word itself happens rarely. The new covenant is the fulfilment of the old, bringing to realization it promises, and not a sharp break from it. The concept of covenant ties together, as opposed to separating the Old and New Testaments.
