The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was originally founded in 1865 in Pulaski, Georgia. Following a wane in membership and interest the Klan experienced a 20th century rebirth in 1915. Kleagle Henry Fry (the author) introduced the KKK to Tennessee while recruiting new members there. Believe it or not, Fry reports that he became disenchanted with the brotherhood once he learned of their racist ideology. This book is a memoir of his involvement with the "Invisible Empire" and begins with a history the origins of secret societies in medieval Germany and the early origins of the KKK. There follow 18 detailed chapters describing the Klan and its workings and includes chapters on the Klan oath, Klan rituals, anti-Negro propaganda, comparisons of the old and new Klans and much more. This book presents a rare insider's view and will be of great interest to any student of the blight of racism in United States history. The Modern Ku Klux Klan was originally published in 1922.
