Every year, hundreds of police officers are injured or killed around the world. Some overestimate their skills as drivers and get involved in high-speed chases, leading to accidents. Others, whether through inability, negligence, overconfidence or armed confrontations, are injured or killed by firearms. There are also those who, by incorrectly "reading" and evaluating a specific scenario, make wrong decisions that will have repercussions for the rest of their lives. There are those who, while off duty and in civilian clothes, are recognized by bandits. Finally, there are those police officers who take more risks than prudence and police techniques recommend. In common, they all have the imperative need to correctly assess the risks to which they are exposed. Thus, the correct perception of risk is, for the police, the "crucial point" that often separates success from failure, life from death.
