Sarah and Nickolas McGuire-ages ten and twelve, respectively-never even knew they had a Great-Aunt Vivian. But now, all of a sudden, they're being rushed off to her manor in Australia, where they're about to encounter a series of events beyond anything they could have ever imagined. A surprisingly young-looking, obviously cold-hearted woman, Vivian has been tasked to take care of Sarah and Nickolas while their parents recover from a car accident in Colorado. But the kids are instantly wary of Vivian and become increasingly suspicious about the time she spends in her lab conducting experiments. They're sure she's up to something-but, what? As they explore the expansive grounds surrounding their great aunt's huge mansion, Sarah and Nickolas discover good and evil unfolding everywhere around them. They stumble upon astonishing magic and find support in unlikely allies, all while being shadowed by sinister forces determined to prevent them from interfering with Vivian's plans. Part magical fantasy adventure, part sci-fi thriller, The Muses is an entirely intriguing and entertaining novel that will captivate young and young-at-heart readers alike, and remind them how otherwise "ordinary" people can often accomplish the extraordinary just by being themselves.
Autorenporträt
N. L. McEvoy's love of mathematics, science, history, and athletics has greatly influenced her writing. The daughter of a mathematician and a scientist, she holds a BS in mathematics, with a concentration in computer science and a minor in classical studies. Although she grew up surrounded by academia, she chose to enter the business world as a management consultant, where she worked for several Fortune 500 companies in information technology. For the last twenty years, she has studied martial arts and holds a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a red belt in kickboxing. Her artistic endeavors as a classical cellist, designer of children's clothing for two international magazines, and self-taught French cook are central to her writing. Among her accomplishments, she has been lucky enough that circumstances have allowed her to travel the world, exposing her to many people, cultures, art forms and history, all of which enrich her writing. McEvoy currently lives in Orlando, Florida with her husband, two teenage children, a snoring Newfoundland, and an overly energetic British Labrador.
