Does the immense diversity of human settlements reflect the dynamics of the Life? Do we really approach the rational and natural urban structures accomplishing the human demands? In this publication, the author starts with the description of today civilization and ways of life, gathers knowledge about brownfields, ghost towns and history of town planning. The book summarizes principles of contemporary sustainability questions in urban studies. The research includes 13 case studies - small and medium zones / neighborhoods in Slovakia and in the Netherlands. The regeneration plans for brownfield sites are evaluated in the sense of structural re-use and with regards to the mixed use. Application and interpretation of planning tools are the goals of search. In the end, several questions and ideas about public spaces, urban typology and information database, are set. The book is written by architect - urban designer - artist, for general public audience, for students and academics concerned with the topic of brownfields, principles of sustainable urban planning and for professionals in similar fields of interest.
