Autorenporträt
Charles Atkinson has served as a Volunteer Visitor for Hospice of Santa Cruz County for eight years. His subtitle, "Poems of Witness," announces this chapbook's intention: each of the twenty poems bears witness to a particular moment nearing the end of life for a patient or loved one. Each is a moment in search of compassion, and becomes a short elegy for everyday life. The collection will speak especially to those caring for end-of-life patients-which in time includes most of us. Charles Atkinson has authored several collections of poetry, including The Only Cure I Know, The Best of Us on Fire, Because We are Men, Fossil Honey, and World News/Local Weather. He taught writing at the University of California, Santa Cruz, for three decades.
