Travel by airplane is by far the safest means of transportation in spite of the numerous talk of aerophobia. The Nigeria aviation industry has grown tremendously in safety measures and economic values. This book provides the reader with background information of the Nigeria aviation industry up to the attainment of the International Aviation Safety Assessment and the Federal Aviation Administration (IASA- FAA) category 1 safety status in 2010. The trend of aircraft accident, incident and casualties in the Nigerian airspace between 1983 and 2013 were valuated. Because 'accidents just don't happen, they are caused', an attempt was made for the first time to compile and quantify the role of human error on accidents data using the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) framework. Readers will find assessments of the effects of aircraft accidents and recommendations on resource development towards safety improvements in Nigeria aviation industry. Therefore, the book is conscientiously prepared following international best practice so as to make it a useful tool for aviation students, researchers and experts, both in Nigeria and abroad.
