As with all stories, there has to be some sort of evil that threatens the very existence of their kind, in this instance, the evil is in the form of a spiritual devil called Shadow, who seeks naught but the destruction of the Sirion Order and the rest of all that oppose him. At first, Simon and Danna seem rather reluctant to have anything to do with Shadow and the Black Order, but when Danna's father, Dan Rivera and Xabian are captured on Shadow's orders, Simon and Danna must help get them back aided by some very unexpected friends from back at the orphanage.
