Black rice is one of several colored rice varieties, including purple, red, pink, blue, brown, and yellow, often referred to as miracle rice due to its high nutritional value compared to white rice. The bran of black rice is particularly rich in protein, lipids, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Major vitamins found in black rice bran include vitamin E and B-vitamins, while its mineral composition primarily consists of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, and manganese. The dark color of black rice is attributed to its high anthocyanin content, which serves as antioxidants, helping to combat free radicals. In our research, we focus on breeding new rice varieties with enhanced nutrition by developing double haploid lines derived from black rice using anther culture technique. Additionally, we study the inheritance of agronomic and yield traits and utilize DNA markers to produce lines with high nutritional value, serving as a source of natural antioxidants and anticarcinogens. Our goal is to enhance both the nutritional and medicinal value of rice-based diets.
