The small village of Onchins in France lies close to the German border. People escaping the horrors of war taking place in Germany are welcomed by the villagers and helped on to the next safe place. Now the German army are sending a troop of soldiers to break the escape route and arrest those aiding the escapees. The officer in charge of the troops falls in love with a local French girl whose father is one of the men helping the escapees.

Jean Drummond Barrie was born in Crowborough, Sussex, and grew up in London. Jean met her husband, Barrie, when they both worked for the GPO. They have been married for over 50 years and have one married daughter, Anne. Jean enjoys writing, poetry and needlework. She also enjoys her garden.
