He was extremely devoted to his partners on the range and would die fighting for them. He wore the same clothes every day and ate whatever the chuck wagon cook gave him. He carried a bedroll tied behind the saddle and slept on the ground regardless of the weather. He became as hard as nails but had the graciousness to all whom he met. He was a real hero of the Old West.

John Herold is currently living in Douglassville, PA. He is married with two daughters and three grandchildren. John enjoys his retirement after working in the aerospace industry. He does watercolor paintings, inventing new things, and sightseeing. His artworks have appeared in several locations in the local area.
