The Organ Chorales of Johan Pachelbel' examines the hymnody and liturgical practice in Germany in the period leading up to Pachelbel's tenure of organist posts in Erfurt and Nuremberg in the later seventeenth century. The considerable body of organ chorales of this underestimated predecessor of J. S. Bach is analysed; appendices list details of the hymnody and an assessment of the organs on which Pachelbel played this music.

Autor

Scottish-born John Willmett, pianist, organist and conductor, spent his early years teaching music in schools. Further study has led to doctoral work in music, and to his thesis, 'Maurice Nicoll and the Kingdom of Heaven'. This Work, 'Dreams, Visions and Gnosis: Maurice Nicoll and the kingdom of Heaven' is an expansion of that thesis.
