K. S. Hansen is originally from Michigan, and she spent several years in California pursuing her career as a writer. She now makes her home in Williamsburg, Virginia. As with her previous novels - Katherine's Story (1995), Earth Walk (2001), Sarah's Child (2006), and The House on Lake Maggiore (2013), the inspiration came from historical research and extensive travel.
