Mahmud II removed janissary corps, who were corrupted and prevented progress of state, and set about installing a western-style military in 1826. He succeeded this aim despite to all obstacles and all accusing. Sultan Mahmud II, who wanted his new armed forces not to be European only with its weapons and organization but also with appearance, made dress reform.
