This is the penal code of the Popular Democratic Republic of Algeria. This code is largely inspired from the French penal code (le code penal). The code was issued in 1966 but amended several times to include new penalties and sanctions especially felonies related to Terrorism and Terrorism financing. The code is composed of 468 articles and divided into 4 books including penalties for misdemeanors, felonies and petty offences. The translator has mixed between two techniques of translation, the first is literal translation and the second is equivalence translation. The second was adopted in some articles when literal translation could alter the real meaning. Equivalence was applied to bridge the gap between two judicial and legal systems namely the French and Anglo-Saxon systems. This law through several amendments placed emphasis on the repression of certain crimes like discrimination, trafficking of organs and Human trafficking in order to respect the principles and spirit of International Law.
