After almost a year since her election, Hailey Rodgers Duncan, United States' first woman president- elected in 2016-has her weekend morning routine interrupted when coverage of a major 9-11 equivalent terrorist attack occurs in China. The attack, as it turns out, is carried out by a real group-a separatist group from the Muslim region of China. It turns out this group is funded and supported by the government of Iran. As the new leadership in China takes over-the president and leader of their military are killed in the attack-their response mirrors the US's response and actions in the months after 9-11. Subsequently, they attack Iran militarily, while details emerge that show the attack on Beijing was actually part of an elaborate ten-years-in-the-making conspiracy pulled off by the new president and new head of the Chinese military. The conspiracy unfolds on another level, as characters are introduced in Iran who are willing accomplices. It turns out there are co-conspirators who are more than happy to see "regime change" brought about in Iran courtesy of the Chinese military as justifiable retribution for the attacks. The President, during the course of this, is faced with several unique challenges, especially when the evidence of a leak at the CIA turns up... ...and when that evidence is brought to light, there is more to the story than meets the eye. The new leadership in China, whose goal is to build and maintain a permanent pipeline to "under favorable terms" essentially grab Iran's oil, making their Iranian co-conspirators who take over in Iran wealthy... ...and at the same time is a double-cross within the Iranian group. The defection of the Chinese Ambassador, after he makes a serious mistake, adds more to President Duncan's plate.
