This is why the following concern is at the center of this reflection: what are the explanatory factors for the persistence of armed conflicts in the central sector of Virunga National Park? Despite all of the efforts made by ICCN, the Virunga sarl company and the FARDC, armed groups are resisting with force. As a result, wildlife and plant ecosystems are threatened with extinction on the one hand, and the park's residents are adversely affected on the other. The study that was conducted among these armed groups for the production of this book reveals that this persistence is due to the double complicity of the loyalist military and the civilian population living along the park's shores.
