"The Place of the Woman in Marriage" is a book presenting the results of a survey of married women in Bulgaria. For centuries, marriage was the main form of social existence for women, which set the specific behavior and view of life of women themselves. The society sets the norm of marriage, the appropriate way of marital relations and the acceptable behavior of the woman-wife. Any deviation from the norm is sanctioned. The country's industrialization and the introduction of liberal ideas contributed to the modernization of society. Women received equal rights with men in the public sphere, but in the private sphere of the family changes were implemented only partially. The historical development of the country lead to a change in society and lifestyle, but that meant the change of the norm of marriage and the wife.
