Neocolonialism is a manifestation of the ongoing
nature of imperialism, suggesting an indirect form
of control through economic and cultural dependence
where formal methods of control like the
implementation of administrative structures, the
stationing of military forces, and most importantly,
the incorporation of the natives of subjects of the
metropolitan government are still in use. This
deliberate and intentional importation of
administrative structures, military force and
culture has lead towards an enforced change of the
Turkish speaking Cypriot community. This form of
dogmatic and imposed thought meant that certain
words and concepts became taboo while cultural and
social values were altered to suit the needs of a
colonizing state. The enforced acceptance of this
has slowly but surely led to a resistive and
revolutionary form of poetry stemming out of
Northern Cyprus...
