metropolitan government are still in use. This
deliberate and intentional importation of
administrative structures, military force and
culture has lead towards an enforced change of the
Turkish speaking Cypriot community. This form of
dogmatic and imposed thought meant that certain
words and concepts became taboo while cultural and
social values were altered to suit the needs of a
colonizing state. The enforced acceptance of this
has slowly but surely led to a resistive and
revolutionary form of poetry stemming out of
Northern Cyprus...

Cemil Sar çizmeli was born in Paphos, Cyprus, in 1972. He holds
a BA degree in English Language and Literature and an MA in
English Literature and Humanities. He is employed as an English
Instructor at the Eastern Mediterranean University in Northern
Cyprus.
