Terver Akpar est titulaire d'un doctorat de philosophie en sciences politiques de l'université Ahmadu Bello de Zaria. Il enseigne à l'université d'État de Benue, à Makurdi. Ses principaux intérêts académiques sont les études stratégiques et africaines. Il a précédemment enseigné dans deux autres universités au Nigeria. Il a beaucoup voyagé et a publié des articles au niveau local et international.
