This book brings together ten leading British criminologists to explore the contemporary politics of crime and its control. The volume is produced in honour of Britain's most important criminological scholar - David Downes, of the London School of Economics. Tim Newburn is Professor of Criminology and Social Policy, Director of the Mannheim Centre for Criminology at the London School of Economics and President of the British Society of Criminology. Paul Rock is a Fellow of the British Academy and professor of Social Institutions at the London School of Economics.
