What does it mean to think, believe, and act like an American? The soul of America is far more than a concept-it is a people. Even the most sacred principles mean very little unless lived out passionately by an informed citizenry. In The Portable Patriot you'll find a carefully assembled sampling of American history's most formative words, written by the people who made that extraordinary history. Speeches and sermons, essays and extracts, poems and proclamations illumine such values as independence, virtue, humility, bravery, thrift, prayer, enterprise, liberty, and reliance on God. While peering back to the cradle of America's national identity, The Portable Patriot also points a way forward, compelling us to heed poet John Dickinson's plea to "rouse your bold hearts at fair Liberty's call." "Nothing ignites a patriot's heart-or the hope that the truths of our founding era will prevail again-like the documents assembled in The Portable Patriot. How grateful we should be, and how quick to make these historic words our own." ?Stephen Mansfield, author, The Forgotten Founding Father and The Faith of the American Soldier "Our current struggles over taxation, federal debt, and limited government are part of a larger American story. Kudos to Miller and Parrish for highlighting these essential passages." ?Hon. Andrew P. Joel first became curious about the prospects of investing in rental properties when someone built sixteen townhouses on his newspaper route in junior high. After obtaining a BA in accounting, he opened an accounting practice while also pursuing his other passion, which was to pioneer the professional mobile disc jockey business in their area. Not long after that, he began to add income properties to his (already busy) life. He soon sold the accounting practice as his involvement in real estate continued to grow, but his DJ business existed nicely with his rental properties for thirty-five years and 5051 appearances.¿Along the way, he began flipping houses (before "flip" was a real estate term), and he's done well over one hundred flips. He retired from the DJ business in 2011, and since then, he has grown his rental investment portfolio. Eventually, in 2018, he became a hard money lender to many other investors, and discovered a real desire to boost newer investors in their journeys with whatever wisdom from his own experiences seemed appropriate.¿While contributing many years as a leader of the professional organization for landlords in northwestern Pennsylvania, he became the lead instructor of their Landlord 101 class, which is a sixteen-hour seminar on becoming the best landlord you can be. Landlords find the class beneficial whether they're still looking for their first rental or if they already have several dozen units. Additionally, he created classes on house flipping and hard money lending.¿He has been an occasional contributor over the years to professional magazines in both the real estate and the mobile disc jockey worlds, and after a bunch of podcast appearances, peers began encouraging him to write a book. Out of a perfect storm of investing experience, business knowledge, podcast appearances, professional writing, and a desire to teach, Build Real Estate Wealth: Enjoy the Journey of Rental Property Investment was born. He hopes you enjoy reading it as much as he enjoyed sharing his insights on these pages!
