This autobiographical collection of letters and diary entries by Elizabeth of the Trinity relates the life of the young nun whose intense spiritualism inspired many. Elizabeth tells of her formative years as an ill-tempered youth, and of determining from a young age that she should be a nun. She would see God in all things, and was an enthusiastic teacher and reader of various holy texts and works of historic saints. Gifted with words, Elizabeth was capable of writing evocative letters and speeches rich in spiritual allusion; given her youth, this ability was thought extraordinary. Tragically Elizabeth succumbed to illness at the young age of twenty-six. Despite the pain of her disease, she continued to write almost until the end, offering counsel and comfort to those around her. In a historic decision, Elizabeth of the Trinity was canonized as a saint in 2016 by Pope Francis. Recognized for her spiritual gravitas, the process of Elizabeth's beatification began in 1931 - her writings, including those in this collection, were intensively studied by committees in the Catholic Church. Several letters appended to the beginning of this book attest to Elizabeth's humble status as a daughter of God, her purity of being and perfection as an adorer of the Blessed Trinity.
