In this observational study, 1360 patient profiles were studied to determine the prevalence of major comorbidities: hypertension, COPD and Type 2 Diabetes in patients reporting for general surgical procedures at SMHS hospital. In this hospital based study, out of 1360 general surgical patients reporting for pre anesthetic evaluation on OPD/IPD basis, 850(62.5%) were females and 510(37.5%) were males. Mean age of the patient population was 45 (+/-10) years. Mean weight was 65.4(+/-9.3) Kg, with maximum and minimum weights of 99 kg and 39 kg respectively. Most of the patient population was from Srinagar (34%) and Baramula (21%). 28% were ASA 2 & 3(with comorbidities) and 72% ASA 1, with no statistically significant difference among two genders. The prevalence of Hypertension, Type2 Diabetes and COPD was found to be 21%, 5% and 2% respectively.
