"Qur'an: An Introduction" is the first book that deals with the Quranic discourse from two essential perspectives. First, the book examines the development of Mohammed's thought within the context of Jewish and Christian ideas about God; and second, it explores the Quranic message from the vantage point of the modern scientific world view. Mohammad Abu-Hamdiyyah presents an accessible introduction to the rich complexities of this ancient text, enabling readers to understand the various components of its message--from the concept of God, the position of mankind in this world, and the purpose of life to the absolute freedom of choice and the responsibility that accompanies it.
This new work presents a concise and accessible introduction to the Qur'an. Muhammad Abu-Hamdiyyah first explores the concept of deity, including the Christian and Jewish understanding of God, and second discusses the Qur'anic message from the perspective of modern knowledge. This is an ideal textbook for students with no prior knowledge of the complexities of the Qur'an's message.
