Lois Turner smiled at the tempting stretch of water ahead, dismissing her tutor's notion that academic success provided true freedom. He knew nothing of her former life, or that study had been her means to block it from her mind. A resolution was needed though, and an open ended journey might provide time and solitude to think, on the boat that was given to her with the simple words, "You need one." She may have had better advice but couldn't think of when, and any thought that she was just running away evaporated when she started the small outboard motor.
