The world is witnessing a refugee crisis, with a record number of people seeking safety. The movement of persons is at its highest and the data shows that it is expected to increase every year. The current refugee regime is not equipped to handle the huge flow of people. There is a recent trend of countries tightening their immigration laws and borders. The definition of a refugee is pertinent for the state to provide protection to the refugees and to define its non-refoulement obligation under the UN Refugee Convention. The book analyses the refugee definition in light of the current refugee realities and the resulting consequences on the non-refoulment obligation of the state.
