Karen Cossey writes children fiction for 5-12-year-olds. Her work includes short stories for 5-9 year-olds, fantasy books for 7-11-year-olds and mystery stories for 9-12-year-olds. She herself has always been an avid reader and firmly believes in the importance of asking questions and developing a child's imagination. She homeschooled her children for 5 years and enjoyed instilling a love of learning and reading into her son and daughter. Reading, to Karen, has three main aspects, one of the main ones being developing a connection with your child. When they are younger, the time spent reading together develops a special bond, but as the child grows in their reading ability, discussing plots and themes of the stories they are reading also strengthens parent-child connection. As an ex-homeschool mom, she knows the importance of reading for education and tries to integrate learning with reading by offering free worksheets on her website. Karen believes that reading foremost is about entertainment. If a storybook does not entertain, it has missed the essential ingredient from which connection springs and education can easily flow.Her recipe for an entertaining story is to bring some of the delight of family and friendship, the joy of living and the fire of imagination into her writing.
