Autorenporträt
George Samuel Clason, born on November 7, 1874, in Louisiana, Missouri, was an American author, soldier, and businessman known for his timeless contributions to personal finance literature. He graduated from the University of Nebraska and then served in the United States Army during the Spanish-American War. Clason's early career involved publishing, and he founded two companies: the Clason Map Company and Clason Publishing Company. His map company became particularly notable for producing the first road atlases of the United States and Canada, a pioneering contribution that provided early guidance to travelers in North America.Clason is best remembered for his book The Richest Man in Babylon, a collection of parables set in ancient Babylon that convey principles of wealth-building, thrift, and financial wisdom. First published in 1926 as a series of pamphlets distributed by banks and insurance companies, these stories were widely popular and eventually compiled into a single volume. The parables, such as "The Seven Cures for a Lean Purse" and "The Five Laws of Gold," use simple yet effective storytelling to illustrate timeless principles of saving, investing, and avoiding debt. The Richest Man in Babylon remains widely read and has influenced generations of readers interested in achieving financial independence.Throughout his life, Clason remained dedicated to educating people on financial literacy, and his work continues to be a foundation for personal finance teachings today. Although Clason passed away on April 5, 1957, in Napa, California, his influence endures as a guiding force for those seeking financial security and prosperity. His legacy, particularly through The Richest Man in Babylon, has cemented his place as a pioneering figure in the field of personal finance and financial education.
