There are lots of books on Lewis and Clark, however, THE RIVER CALLSis the only historic book which tells the TRUE story of Lewis and Clark's 1803-1806 Corps of Discovery expedition comparing the original journey to the 200th anniversary commemoration of the Discovery Expedition of St Charles and First Squad reenactors. What has transpired and changed over the years, what remains the same? What did the original expedition experience and what did the men, many former military men, of 200 years later encounter? Who were these men of undaunted courage and what called these brave souls to THE RIVER then and now? Especially now, what called them to THE RIVER giving up contemporary comforts and travel this historic wilderness adventure? The Louisiana Purchase, the greatest land deal in American history, found the young men of the military Corps of Discovery forging forward into the vast unknown and unexplored land beyond the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Each day beganand ended in military protocol including Court Marshals and discipline. Like American soldiers landing on foreign soils, battles on our land, and other battles yet to come, Lewis and Clark carried the American flag of 15 stars to the Pacific Ocean and back. An early example of bravery and undaunted courage. THE RIVER CALLSrecounts the original journals in their own words and that of the 200th anniversary commemoration with over 250 photos and 50 sections describing the trials, tribulations, celebrations, differences and challenges of these journeys. Take a step back into history and relive "the GREATEST Land Deal" and Expedition in America! See you On The Trail! We proceed on ... as THE RIVER CALLS
Autorenporträt
Over the years, direct descendant of Private George Shannon, Bob "Shannon" Anderson edited THE RIVER CALLS many times to verify the information factual. He would question me saying, "Show me where this is in Gary Moulton's book" and I would have to prove my statement. Also, Rick Keller, who with his partner Earnie Cowan of Great War Militaria, aided me with inside information and verification facts regarding Lewis' air gun and many other 1803-06 documentation. With my inquisitiveness and fact finding, I located the gun receiving photos from Scott Metzler, the official photographer. National Parks Service team members were so gracious with their information and assistance in acquiring rights to use photos which enhanced this historic book. Sue Auger lead the way with information about Seaman while Bass Pro's "CC girls" and founder Johnny Morris verified information which enriched the book. Former Bismarck Tribune editor Ken Rogers began my interest by taking me to historic sites, encouraging me and then painstakingly edited THE RIVER CALLS. Kudos go to my friend Roger Krueger who first took me to the 2004 Bismarck ND campsite which stirred my heart and historic roots, leading to my traveling alongside the reenactors for most of the journey hearing directly their stories and photographing their adventures into history. Thank ya'll! We proceed on ... as THE RIVER CALLS
