This research consists of a comprehensive and reflexive approach to the social representation of the role attributed to the Venezuelan university by students of the Universidad Central de Venezuela who are close to finishing their studies. This issue is important because, in a context of socioeconomic crisis, the way this role is understood could influence the life and country projects of university students. The results show a mixed vision of the university on the part of the interviewees. Satisfying the demands of the labor market seem to be above scientific possibilities or critical thinking.
