The Role of Media in International Relations provides readers with a collection of timely and thought-provoking articles that demonstrate how mass media has evolved and progressed in the context of our technologically advanced society. The text encourages readers to think critically regarding the dissemination of news and information on a global scale to better understand its ability to shape knowledge, worldviews, and perspectives. The readings address how Arab-Americans and Muslims are literally and figuratively framed in U.S. media, issues of free speech, the proliferation of "fake news," the ways in which the Iran Deal was portrayed in the media, and pro-western liberalism's decline in Russia. Students read about the intersection of the internet and international politics, social media use by business college students, Coptic Christians and the Manchester attack, and more. Case studies, study questions, and additional readings and resources reinforce the materials and encourage further exploration and consideration. The Role of Media in International Relations is an ideal supplementary textbook for courses in mass media, international relations, and any course that examines contemporary media and global news.
