Shafi'u Abubakar Kurfi si è laureato presso il Dipartimento di Contabilità dell'Università Bayero di Kano con il massimo dei voti. Allo stesso modo, ha conseguito un master in contabilità internazionale presso la Universiti Utara Malaysia con la prima classe. Attualmente è docente presso il dipartimento di contabilità dell'Università Umaru Musa Yar'adua. Sposato e con due figli.
