When we think about salvation, it seems so simple in its abstract conception. Christ died on the cross, and so we are saved. But although his death does accomplish this wondrous feat, explaining why it works, and why it saves us, is a far more elusive proposition than one might expect. How, exactly, does it work? Why did God find it necessary to devise this elaborate plan to send his own son to die? Why couldn't he have simply declared us forgiven, provided we had faith? Why is blood necessary for the remission of sins? And even with the shedding of blood, how was the death of one righteous man sufficient to reconcile an entire world of sinners, past, present, and future? As Paul suggests, salvation is a great mystery. Follow me on this short journey to see how the pieces fit together. See why it works, and how the various aspects of the Bible's doctrines, stories, and laws each contribute to the process of our salvation. Understanding is the key to a world of revelation.
