Jeju Island, 60 miles south of the Korean peninsula, is dominated by Mount Halla, the tallest mountain of South Korea (6400 ft). A companion mountain Sanbangsan is the only mountain that appears not to be a volcano as it has no crater. Legend has it that a volcanic explosion blew Halla's top off, which landed on the coast of the Pacific Ocean and became Sanbangsan (meaning "mountain from mountain"). Jeju is becoming a major tourist destination as a resort with unique attractions such as the largest Aquarium in Asia, and the largest Buddhist Temple in Asia, replete with gardens, forests and 300 dormant volcanoes. It is said that on his journeys, Santa was attracted to Jeju to become his new headquarters because, while he occupied Mount Halla with his deer and horses, his elves could thrive in a high-tech workshop deep inside Sanbangsan.
