What does the place we imagine living the rest of our lives look like? This is a question that human beings constantly ask themselves and seek answers to. Firstly, we need to understand the past in order to imagine the future and confront the present. The cities that exist today are the result of various curious debates about the best way to live in society, and the ideal city is the fruit of this tireless search for the perfect society. The experiences of imagining the ideal city guide society and planners and transform urban space. Utopias are an initiative to rethink the chaotic city, and this study aims to explore the main urban utopias: Garden City, City for 3 Million People, New Cities, Anti-City, Fair City and Cities for People. It also investigates how utopias are specialised, exposing the reality of Leidsche Rijn as the realisation of the ideal city in its context and analysing the consequences of this search on the spatiality of the city.
