Elementary school should prepare children for the realities of life and enable them to participate in the cultural, social and economic life of our society.In this context, the child's language skills are required to the highest degree, which is why there have been separate German support classes and courses throughout Austria since the 2018/19 school year in the interests of equal opportunities.However, studies show that this model of German support is inferior to other language support models.For this reason, and based on surveys of kindergarten teachers and primary school teachers, it appears that a second compulsory year of kindergarten could counteract the problem of a lack of German language skills.Regular and early entry into kindergarten creates optimal conditions in which children can experience and try out language in a playful context.For this reason, the obligation of a second kindergarten year is a possible development guideline for an early German promotion measure in Austria.
